CQAM/MILIEUX Residency – Call for applicants

Conseil québécois des arts médiatiques (CQAM) and Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology of Concordia University (Milieux) invite applications for the 2nd CQAM-MILIEUX Residency. Inaugurated in 2018, this four-week residency offers professional independent artists or artist collectives working in the digital media arts a singular opportunity to deepen or diversify their practice within the Milieux community comprised of interdisciplinary research clusters.

In addition to providing access to its shared facilities and equipment, Milieux will match the resident with a faculty mentor chosen from one of its associated cluster’s member artists and researchers. The goal of the collaboration is to develop further practices and knowledge of the digital media arts through active exchange and creative process between artists, researchers and the institution.

The CQAM-MILIEUX Residency includes an artist fee. Created and managed by CQAM, this residency offers professional artists in media arts a space to research and create as well as to stimulate dialogue between key actors working in the fields of digital art.

Equipment Available
The artist or collective ought to indicate which research cluster they wish to work with. Depending on the needs to the project, specific infrastructure will be made available, including:
_research laboratories and studios of 1 552 Sq m;
_ shared studio lab spaces for practical work along with a dedicated a maker space;
_two studios for textile arts equipped with custom Jacquard loom, embroidery machine flatbed scanner and cutting tables;
_one photography studio equipped with laser jet printers Epson 11880 : 1,6 m (64 po) and Epson S70670 : 1,6 m (64 po), film scanners Imacon Flextight 828 and Creo iQsmart2, printer ZBE Chromira 1x : 1,2 m (50 po);
_a black box studio and video production studio that can also serve for presentation or performances.

Eligibility
This residency is for professional artists or professional  art  collectives who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The artist or collective must be available for four weeks in total between October 1st and December 20th, 2019. Artists or collectives who have previously applied are eligible as long as they propose a new project.

Selection criteria and evaluation process
A committee composed of representatives of CQAM, Milieux and external stakeholders will evaluate the proposals according to the following criteria :
_ quality of the candidate’s artistic work and process;
_ relevance of the project in the context of digital arts;
_feasibility of the proposed project;
_impact of the residency in the development of the artist’s practice;
_coherence with the institute’s mission and capacity.

Rights ownership
The winning artist or collective retains ownership of all rights to proposal materials submitted and to the outcomes of the residency.
