Is it possible to narrate a face? Is it possible to narrate our own face? Despite its visibility, the face evoques intimacy, even nakedness, because the nudity of the face is “true nakedness”(Levinas).
How then can one denude in words what is naked to the eye? I propose to create audio self-portraits. Based on testimonials from people, this project has two stages:
1. Gather audio interviews. These are testimonials from people who think about the following question: What do you see when looking at yourself in the mirror?
2. Installation design for the interviewing space. It aims to highlight the process of creating self-portraits based on listening and speaking.
This research is an extension of my artistic work that is built with and around testimonials. It also draws its interest in a new consideration of the ekphrasis, a literary genre devoted to the description of works. Here, the work to be described is the invisible and changing image that people have of their faces.
