Daïmon : Call for submissions

DAÏMÔN is an artist-run centre with the mandate of supporting research-creation, production and dissemination of media arts. Through its Artist-in-residence, Research and Creation, and Support for First Works programs, Daïmôn encourages artists to push the limits of their practice and to develop new and original approaches to image, video, sound and electronic art, including installation, interactive and performative practices.

A residency at DAÏMÔN is ideal for artists looking for time, space, and use of a wide range of technical equipment to explore, research and experiment within or across media disciplines. Visiting residents enjoy accommodation and workspace within the Filature, a distinct heritage building in Hull, QC and the National Capital Region of Canada.

 

Residency Programs :
Artist-in-residence – 4 weeks
Offered to professional artists, this programme is intended for artists with over five years of practice. Artists from Quebec, Canada and elsewhere are eligible for this programme.

DAÏMÔN provides :
– Technical and artistic support
– Accommodation
– Access to the Centre’s equipment

- Artist’s fee of $1700
– Travel allowance*
* All other production costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Research and Creation – 4 weeks
This programme is offered to emerging, mid-career, and established professional Canadian artists.

DAÏMÔN provides:
– Technical and artistic support
– Access to the Centre’s equipment
– Services of a technician
– Artist’s fee of $750*
* All other production costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Support for First Works – 2-4 weeks
DAÏMÔN supports the development of a first work by artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Admissible projects include the production of an original work using video, audio, photography or the application of hybrid media in an artwork. Emerging artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region with basic training are invited to apply to create a first work in a professional context. Professional artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region with an established practice in another discipline who wish to develop work in a new media are also encouraged to apply. This residency does not include accommodation or travel support. Selected artists receive a fee of $750.

Research and Creation – 4 weeks
This program is open to professional emerging, mid-career or established artists with an active practice in media arts. Artists from the Ottawa-Gatineau region, Québec and Canada are eligible for this program

DAÏMÔN provides:
– Technical and artistic support
– Access to the Centre’s equipment
– Services of a technician
– Travel allowance and cover limited daily expenses for artists from outside the region.*
* All other production costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Deadline: November 20, 2018

Proposals are selected by a programming committee. All submissions must include:
– Your contact information
 and a clear indication of the program you are applying for
– Resume (max. 3 pages)
– A project description with an artist statement (about 500 words)
– Technical needs
– Timeline (1 page max)

One of the following documentation
– A maximum of 15 images OR
– A maximum 3 of audio/vidéo documents (max. 10 min. in TOTAL) OR
– A maximum  5 images and 2 audio/vidéo documents (max. 5 min. in TOTAL)
– A descriptive list of the support documentation
