The Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ) is pleased to invite you to a talk with the artist and founder of Artista X Artista, Carlos Garaicoa Manso (Havana). This encounter will focus on his artistic practice, Cuban contemporary art issues as well as the creation of the first residency program, Artista X Artista, in Cuba.
Carlos Garaicoa Manso is invited to Montreal by the RCAAQ as artist and founder of Artista X Artista as part of the Montreal / Havana exchange program, led by the RCAAQ since 2011, in collaboration with the Montreal Arts Council. This year, a partnership has been established with Artista X Artista in Havana and OBORO in Montreal.

Carlos Garaicoa Manso studied thermodynamic and painting at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana (1989-1994). He employs a multidisciplinary approach to address issues of culture and politics, particularly Cuban, through the study of architecture, urbanism and history. His major theme has been the city of Havana, and his medias include installation, video, photography, sculpture, pop-up books, and drawing. Together with Mahé Marty, his wife, he founded the artists-in-residence project Artista X Artista in Havana.
