The program will be online on January 25 on our Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter plateforms.
To stimulate original videographic creations and the presentation of new works in these times of containment, La Bande Vidéo launched last October across Canada a call for short animation, experimental and art video works. Featuring 20 works by Canadian artists, the “Risky Topics” program will first be aired online on our social medias, as of January 25, at the rate of one video per day. It will then be available in whole in our Médiathèque, a platform that gathers videos produced and presented by La Bande Video over the last 30 years.
Immersed in an unprecedented global social and sanitary crisis since the Spring of 2020, online social media followers are flooded daily with tinkered filmed chronicles, homemade speeches and artistic performances that tackle, in a realistic or pastiche-like way, the topics of reflection and revolt inflicted by the pandemic: isolation, conspiracy discourses, fear of illness, anxiety, loneliness, financial debt, etc. More than ever, and compulsively, video stands out as a necessary vehicle for escapism, unwinding or humor, for drama and for beauty.
Through this call without constraints except for the run time, La Bande Vidéo wanted to highlight our contemporary videography’s inventiveness and keep a tighter record of the testimonials of the pandemic context. With “Risky Topics”, La Bande Vidéo wishes to expose the videographic medium as a tool for revolution and spillovers, for lament and uselessness.
The “Risky Topics” program consists of the works of the following artists and will be broadcast on our social media on the following dates:
