Conseil québécois des arts médiatiques (CQAM) and Montreal-based company Turbulent are inviting applications for the 4th CQAM-TURBULENT Residency. This four-week residency offers professional artists or artist collectives a unique opportunity to produce or finalize a project amidst Turbulent’s specialized team, laboratory and equipment.
During the residency, the selected artist or collective will be able to deepen their creative practice with regard to Turbulent’s expertise: software development, web applications, and Internet platforms. The resident will dispose of 200 hours of technical and consulting assistance to produce their project proposal between May 1st, 2019 and April 30th, 2020. The resident can count on the support of qualified technicians who will be selected in accordance with the proposal.
Thanks to the support of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the CQAM-TURBULENT Residency includes a 4000$ artist fee. Initiated and managed by CQAM, this residency offers professional artists in media arts a space to research and create as well as to stimulate dialogue between key actors working in the fields of digital art.

Eligibility
This residency is for professional artists or professional art collectives who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The artist or collective must be available for two periods of two weeks (four weeks in total) between May 1st, 2019 and April 30th, 2020. An artist or collective who has previously applied to the residency program is eligible as long as they propose a new project.
Selection criteria and evaluation process
A committee composed of representatives of CQAM, Turbulent and external stakeholders will evaluate the proposal according to the following criteria in order to retain three candidates:
- Recognition. Work quality and artistic process of candidate (20%);
- Technique. Expertize and equipment to be explored at Turbulent (20%);
- Concept. Project (technical and artistic), feasibility and originality (40%).
- Afterwards, an interview with Turbulent representatives will determine the winner. (20%)
Rights ownership
The winning artist or collective retains ownership of all rights to proposal materials submitted and to the outcomes of the residency.
