Sew Along with Lee Jones
Virtual residency
Lee Jones is a PhD student at the Creative Interactions Lab at Carleton University. In her research, she uses participatory design and creates easy-to-use toolkits so that individuals can build prototypes and have a say in the direction their technologies will go in. In her current project, she is developing a toolkit for prototyping wearable e-textiles. She also loves running e-textile workshops in makerspaces, art galleries, and community organizations under the name Electro-Stitches.
The artist says: «E-textiles and having electronics in your clothes might sound like science fiction but are actually a fun and easy way to learn all about electricity and building sensors. E-textiles combine learning craft techniques (such as sewing, weaving, knitting and crocheting) with the added excitement of making a circuit work.»
In her upcoming presentation, Jones will launch the new online e-textile workshop series on Electrostitches.com. She will be doing an online workshop on conductive items you can find around your home. She will also explain how to sew a simple e-textile circuit and learn how to sew a light-up bookmark for reading in the dark.
Note : the presentation will be in English only. A video with French subtitles will be published shortly after.
DATE : Wednesday April 29th, 7pm on ZOOM
