Videographe 50th anniversary creation residency

Deadline for submisison: November 15, 2020

In 2021, Vidéographe will celebrate 50 years of continuous commitment to research, dissemination, and sharing in video and experimental moving image practices. Always inspired by the legacy of its founders, Vidéographe pursues and develops initiatives in order to remain a prolific artist-run centre, in which artists of different generations and backgrounds can come together, experiment, support each other and learn.

As part of its 50th anniversary, and with a view to encouraging artists of different generations to meet and build relationships, Vidéographe is offering a residency during which established/mid-career and emerging artists will be paired together to produce new works.

We invite Quebecer and Canadian artists to submit a proposal indicating how you would envisage this collaboration taking place and what is particularly interesting to you in this way of working. The selected artists will be invited to a group meeting during which the pairs will be determined collectively.

This residency is intended for the creation of single-channel videos that could take a variety of forms, such as: video art, animation, digital art, video essay, documentary, or dance video. We envisage these to be
between 5 – 20 minutes in length in order to facilitate their dissemination, but we are open to longer or shorter durations.

Vidéographe recognizes the richness of the diversity of culture, gender, sexual orientation, identity and language in Quebec and Canada. We encourage members of minority, marginalized or traditionally under-represented groups to submit their candidacy.

Conditions
Each artist will receive a production fee of $5,000. A production budget for equipment rental and external experts (e.g. sound mixing, color correction) will also be allocated to each pair. The works will be produced in 2021-22. They will be put in circulation via our distribution service and will be integrated into the collection. The artists will retain copyrights over their works.

Please note that this project will be subject to a funding application. Its realization is contingent on obtaining this funding.
